Welcome to the Potters Village

Children in every family are expected to grow up to become responsible, happy individuals. Being tomorrow’s leaders, their survival, protection, and development should be the primary goal of every family, community, and nation. Unfortunately for many children the future is bleak due to the absence of a healthy environment that supports their growth and development.

In Ghana, for instance, it is widely acknowledged that countless number of children are denied parental care, love, and protection, exposing them to dangers that hamper their growth and development. Many of these children suffer various kinds of abuse, forcing them to leave their homes for the streets where they are exposed to drug abuse, armed robbery, prostitution, and other social vices. This usually occurs in homes where the mothers are also physically and emotionally abused by their male partners, thereby constraining their efforts in raising their children to become responsible citizens.

It is against this background that the late Dr. Mrs. Jane Irina Adu set out to build a shelter to provide abused women and their children a safe home, where they can be supported to fulfill their dreams. Today, Mama Jane’s shelter – the Potter’s Village – has evolved into a notable social legacy, providing support and protection to vulnerable and orphaned children in a safe and caring environment.

WHO WE ARE

The Potter’s Village is a non- profit, non- governmental organisation which was established in May 2000, by Dr. Mrs. Jane Irina Adu with the aim of supporting women and children who experience domestic violence as well as providing for the needy, orphans, the abandoned and the homeless.

Over the years, the organisation has contributed immensely towards protection and promotion of the well-being of women and children through special programs such as Family Life Education, Marriage Counselling, Life Success Coaching, Emotional Healing and other support services which include provision of Shelter and Marriage Training.

Currently, the organisation supports over two hundred (200) children ranging from zero (0) to twenty- three (23) years both in the home and in various communities. The organization has also given hope and restoration to many families and the vulnerable throughout Ghana and beyond.

You are welcome to the place of love.
